THE RETICENT

The Reticent is the emotionally charged progressive metal project led by multi-instrumentalist Chris Hathcock. Blending progressive metal, post-metal, and deeply personal storytelling, The Reticent crafts immersive concept albums that explore the most human and heartbreaking aspects of life. Their music is often compared to Opeth, Katatonia, and Swallow the Sun, weaving together intricate instrumentals, dynamic shifts between aggression and fragility, and raw, emotive lyricism.

The project debuted with Hymns for the Dejected in 2006, followed by Amor Mortem Mei Erit in 2008, which further established Hathcock’s unique fusion of progressive metal and deep introspection. With Le Temps Detruit Tout (2012), The Reticent introduced a more ambitious approach, layering melancholic soundscapes with technical musicianship.

In 2016, the critically acclaimed On the Eve of a Goodbye was released, a devastatingly intimate concept album about loss and suicide. Praised for its unparalleled emotional weight, the album became a defining moment for the project, cementing The Reticent’s reputation as one of the most poignant and thought-provoking acts in modern progressive metal.

Their latest album, The Oubliette (2020), is an undeniable masterpiece and a favorite among the ProgStorm team. This conceptual journey navigates the seven stages of Alzheimer’s disease, immersing listeners in a harrowing, tragic, and deeply moving experience. The album has been hailed as one of the most gut-wrenching progressive metal releases of recent years, drawing critical acclaim for its storytelling depth, instrumental mastery, and emotional impact.

The Reticent has taken their gripping music to the stage at ProgPower USA XXII in 2023, earning high praise for their powerful live performances. Over the years, they have shared the stage with Insomnium, Swallow the Sun, Cynic, Elvenking, and Seven Spires, leaving a lasting impression on audiences with their intensely personal and immersive approach to performance.

Now, for the first time ever, The Reticent will perform in Canada, making their international debut at ProgStorm Festival. This long-awaited performance promises to be an unforgettable and emotionally charged moment.
