Into Eternity
Progressive death metal band from Regina, Canada
Into Eternity is a legendary progressive death metal band from Regina, Saskatchewan, formed in 1997 by guitarist and vocalist Tim Roth, bassist Scott Krall, and drummer Jim Austin. The band's signature sound blends progressive metal, melodic death metal, and power metal, incorporating thrash-influenced riffing, neoclassical compositions, clean and harsh vocals, and acoustic passages. Over the years, they have shared the stage with some of the most iconic names in metal, including Megadeth, Opeth, Lamb of God, and Dream Theater, solidifying their status as one of Canada's most revered extreme metal acts.
Their self-titled debut album Into Eternity was independently released in 1999 before being reissued by DVS Records in 2000. This was followed by Dead or Dreaming in 2001 and Buried in Oblivion in 2004, the latter receiving widespread acclaim for its intricate musicianship and dynamic songwriting.
In 2006, The Scattering of Ashes introduced Stu Block (ex-Iced Earth) as the band's new vocalist, bringing a unique range that seamlessly shifted between clean singing and growls. This album propelled Into Eternity onto the international stage, leading them to join Megadeth’s Gigantour in 2006 alongside major metal acts.
Their 2008 album The Incurable Tragedy marked a darker turn for the band, serving as a concept album inspired by personal losses to cancer, tackling themes of mortality and grief.
Following a period of reduced activity, the band returned in 2018 with The Sirens, introducing Amanda Kiernan on vocals alongside Stu Block, adding new depth to their sound.
Despite multiple lineup changes over the years, Tim Roth has remained the creative force behind Into Eternity, keeping the band's vision alive. Their discography showcases a commitment to technicality, emotion, and innovation, solidifying them as a cornerstone of Canadian progressive metal.
Founding member Tim Roth has fond memories of the last times they performed in Montréal many years ago, notably their performance at the Bell Centre during Gigantour 2006, where they shared the stage with Megadeth, Opeth, Lamb of God, and Arch Enemy. They returned to the Bell Centre in 2007 alongside Dream Theater and Redemption.
Into Eternity will headline on Saturday, August 9.
